Hey Derek. I enjoyed the episode. Glad you liked Let the Right One In. Here's some things I learned about the movie after watching it that might be useful for you to know. First, in the book the dad is not gay but an alcoholic. That is what is supposed to be portrayed in the movie too. A lot of people thought he was meant to be gay, to the confusion of the director. I thought he was gay too for the record. Second, the "nude" shot was actually faked. It was either CG or a dummy, I can't remember which they said. Also, there is more to the story of Eli the vampire than was let on in the movie and which is fleshed out in the book. Did you noticed the scar in the area that was shown? In the book, as Eli was being turned into a vampire, he/she was also castrated. So Eli is actually a boy. I think there may be some deleted scenes from the movie somewhere that explains this.

Eric, I got a great audio comment from a friend of mine who explains
that the book goes into a lot more detail than the movie. I'll play it
on the next show. Thanks for listening.

Hey Derek,
I didn't like this movie because I just couldn't get into it and the characters were not at all interesting to me. I thought there was so little character development that I truly did not care about a single one of them. I felt that the acting was so mediocre that I got no sense of feeling or caring from any of the actors. Personally, I don't like Kristen Stewart and feel that she plays the same exact emotionless person in every movie I've seen her in. I NEVER EVER fall asleep in a movie and I zonked out for about 5 minutes in what was supposed to be the exciting part when the whole chase thing starts. The only characters I was even remotely interested in were Jacob and his family. And they were there for all of about 10 minutes. So, vampire stuff aside, these are the reasons I didn't like it. You wanted to know……..
Listened to this episode today since we watched Let The Right One In over the weekend. As someone who did not like Twilight I felt the need to respond. AND I'll give my reasons without mentioning sparkling vampires.
As for Let The Right One In, I enjoyed it. I felt like this movie explored some things that I haven't seen in a vampire movie before. For instance, I never knew what would happen if a vampire entered a home without being invited in. I didn't see the father as gay; I saw him as a dad who only got to see his son on the weekends and his son relished the time he got to spend with him. When the other guy showed up, the dad stopped playing with his son who still wanted attention from his father. I think they had this scene in order to show how attention starved the boy was. The kid had no friends and probably saw his dad as the person who was his only friend. Yeah, maybe I'm reading too much into it but that's how I saw it. Same thing with the toothbrush scene…..I think it was thrown in there as a way to show that he and his mom hardly ever communicate but gee, look how she plays with him for a few seconds and look at how happy that makes him. So when the girl starts paying attention to him, he's hooked. She seems to be someone who genuinely cares about him and appeals to his sense of loneliness in order to eventually get what she wanted. And that was a replacement Renfield. The way that Mike and I saw it, we thought that the old guy with her may have been with her since he was Oscar's age. He ages, she doesn't. So then it appears that he is some child molester. Once he realized that she was getting interested in Oscar he asked her not to see him because I think he realized he was losing her. He was slipping up in his work and when he got caught he tried to kill himself by pouring acid on his face. Since he didn't succeed, she did him the favor of finishing him off. I do agree with you that it was a case of seduction on the girl's part in order to get the help she needed. I thought one of the best parts was the pool scene when she came back for him. What better way to close the deal on claiming him for herself than to save his life. He would always be indebted.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the movies. Sorry for being so long-winded.
